My bags weren't packed yet, but I was ready to go! Leaving for Fairbanks started very early in the morning for me, and the arid plateaus fell away to be replaced by tidal flats, mountains and Black Spruce bogs.

View of the Grand Canyon Flying over southern Alaska It had been 20 years since I had last been in Alaska, and I was really looking forward to meeting the people from ARCUS and the other teachers involved in TREC. The air was cool and moist when I arrived, which felt really good to an Arizona girl! Arriving in Fairbanks We all met for training Sunday morning and learned about how to set a fracture and irrigate a wound (yuck) and then went sightseeing for a bit. We saw some... interesting things in North Pole... and visited the mighty pipeline. Getting to know the other TREC teachers on a field trip was a great start for us. Reindeer at the North Pole TREC teachers at the Alaska Pipeline Monday brought much more training, new computers and cameras and lots of training on the web. We also got homework, which we all did together around the table downstairs at the hotel. We have one more day in Fairbanks to ready ourselves with the basics of journaling and picture work. |
