Hi Jackie,

No, the pictures of the Candle Ice were taken out on the Ikpikpuk River delta about 60 miles from Barrow. It's not too far from your uncle and aunt's cabin at Cape Simpson! Have you been there before?

To see this happen for yourself, you need to do the following:
1 - go out on the tundra near the middle to the end of July.
2 - find a lake that is fairly large (this one was probably as big or
bigger than Freshwater Lake outside of Barrow...that lake may
work!) and that still has some ice left floating on it.
3 - make sure it is a windy day!
4 - wait until you hear a tinkling noise, like lots of icicles falling off
of a house!
