Were you really frightened or excited when you first saw the bear? What was the closest you've been to one?

Dear Emma,
When we first saw the bear from the river, I thought it was exciting. However, when the bear followed us up and we saw him in the field I was very frightened because I felt certain that the bear was able to smell us which is why he followed us up to the field from the river. At that point, I didn't want any confrontation with the bear over the fish, so I was just very happy when our ride showed up and we were out of there!
