I think that one of the lake is frozen because it has more salt than the other lake next to it and that it has less organisms living in it.

That could be!

The lakes with ice on them tended to be larger and the smaller lakes were completely melted. So, I think it had to do with the the amount of water and the time it takes to heat it up.

Larger lakes are usually deeper as well, so have a large volume of water. This large volume of water takes a long time to heat up, so the ice doesn't melt as fast.

Smaller lakes are usually shallower, and heat up more quickly!

You could do a nice science project testing the idea!
