The day started out drizzling, cold and a bit windy, but you get used to this kind of weather. It beats those hot humid days the northeast is getting!!! We finished up doing the river profile today. It looks like the sediments move down the valley in steps. The gradient is steep and the river moves fast and it carries a lot of sediments then it slows as the gradient decreases and a lot of sediments are deposited in mudflats. The gradient increases again and a lot of sediments are transported and then it slows one more time as the water enters the lake and the sediments settle out. We also have been collecting many of the data loggers that we have deployed in the field to download the summer data. At night this data is downloaded on computers.

In addition, we are starting to work on setting up and putting out data loggers that will collect data on water temperatures, air temperatures, relative humidity, and wind speed and direction over the winter. It is important to document the placement of all of these dataloggers carefully with a GPS unit so next years field researchers can find them.

Below I put some pictures of some of the work we did yesterday as well as a couple pictures of our bear dogs. A lot of people have bear dogs around here. They alert people to the presence of polar bears. Ours stay at our field station and will hopefully bark a lot if a bear comes in.
