TREC Virtual Base Camp _ Teacher's Journal _ Logistics

Posted by: Robert_Oddo Jul 27 2005, 04:03 AM

The amount of time and logistics needed to get all these projects off the ground is really unbelievable. Its not like you can just call and get something. We have slowly been moving materials up to our study sites. Water samplers, guns, fuel cans, booms, engines and all kinds of equipment. We did have a helicopter come once to bring some of the real heavy stuff but a lot of the time it is on our backs. Today we carried sediment traps, a fuel can, a boom and various other smaller things up to the lake and then went off to work on profiling the lake and determineing the flow of the river entering the lake. It was cold today with the wind blowing. The locals say that autumn has begun here and soon the tundra will be turning color. Hmmm, there doesn't seen to be that much to turn color but we will see. Camp life is great. After finishing our work in the field usually tend to equipment have dinner and then crunch data. As mentioned yesterday, our field camp is quite nice. Below you will see some pictures!!!
