Hi Katie,

The bands on the snow geese are not satellite tags (but that is what we were putting on caribou last week!).

The bands are metal rings that fit around the legs of the geese. When a goose is caught or hunted in the future, it's location and the date are recorded. This information helps the biologists determine the migration pattern of the snow geese, that is, when and where they go during their migration throughout the year.

Snow geese banded on the North Slope can be found in Washington, California, Mexico, or the southeastern United States! Cool, huh?
