Hi i was just wondering what you eat on the boat and what you do when you are not doing science work!!!!!????? DO you usually hang around, or do you always work??? Pls get back ASAP!!!!!

Hi,

Just as I was telling Carrie Benton in another post, the food I eat on the ship is fairly normal by American standards. The Coast Guard has some menus that they cycle through

Here's tonight's dinner menu:

Halibut Olympia
Pork Chop Suey
Lo-Mein Noodles
Cal rose rice
Superba brussel sprouts
steamed lima beans
dinner rolls
salad bar
assorted beverages
assorted desserts

Usually we just have one entree, so it will be either halibut or pork chops. I think I will go with the halibut.


Lunch today was:

vegetable soup
cornish game hens
wild rice
onion rings
steamed broccoli
sandwich bar
salami, pastrami, turkey
sliced onions and tomatoes
salad bar
assorted beverages
soft serve yogurt

breakfast:

fresh chilled fruits
hot grits
grilled eggs to order
ham steaks
home fry potatoes
golden waffles with maple syrup
hard boiled eggs
grilled spam
cream cheese, jams and jellied
fresh coffee, teas and juices


Now, I don't have a lot of spare time on the ship, as there is always some scientific work going on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while we are out here. Of course, everyone has to sleep and eat, so we take turns on shifts but I have been working the majority of each 24 hour day. When we do have a few minutes ,there are a lot of wildlife to see and the weather has turned really nice so it is great to go out on the deck to enjoy the ocean and sea ice and the sunliight. I 've got a few books to read and I am learning some new software on my computer too.

A lot of people get the idea that going on a research cruise is like going on a pleasure cruise, but we do work pretty hard and come home tired.
