Wassup Ms. Kaden,
This is Shanky. Hows life in the North? Just wanted to know if mosquitos are a major problem. I thought that mosquitos didin't like the cold weather. Please get back to me on that.

Shanky,
Alaska has a lot of standing water after the snow melts like we have in BRO after a thunderstorm or rain. In summer the avrage temperaure in Alaska is warm enough for mosquitos to multiply fast. Sometimes referred to as the Alaska state bird biggrin.gif , the mosquito can be very annoying. There are few things you can do to avoid being a target for these little insects.

Avoid wearing perfume, cologne and other sweet fragrances.
Use an insect repellent. Avon Skin so Soft is known to be very effective, as is eucalyptus oil.
Take vitamin B1 for a few weeks before coming to Alaksa.
This is good advice for Brownsville to.

Ooh...

I really liked that idea of taking B1 to repel mosquitoes! That's definitely something I'll relay to my fourth graders.

Thanks!
