Dear ms. N.O. Are you having fun there in the Kuril Islands?
I was reading your teachers journal and it was really interesting of what you were finding. what was your biggest find that you have seen or dug up?

This week im in Canada and the weather is allot like the weather in the Kuril Islands mostly cloudy foggy in the morning and clears up in the day.

Is our "explore journal" the writing you print off the computer that you have written or is it a journal that you write what you did in the summer? smile.gif cool.gif rolleyes.gif mellow.gif

Well, so far, except for the first day, I seem to have an archaeological curse.  I haven't found any artifacts while I have been working with the archaeologists, yet.  Just some bones when we sifted the midden - but it is possible that they are not prehistoric, but rather fairly modern (meaning they are only 50-100 years old instead of 1000-5000).  They find LOTS of things while I am not there, including bone and stone points, a wooden spoon and all sorts of ceramic pottery. I have seen some very cool dirt layers while working with the geologists - volcanic deposits, lagoon deposits, peats, sandy soils, etc.   Sometimes you can figure out a lot about the water level over the past by looking at what kind of stuff has been deposited and in what order. If I understand your last question correctly, you are to periodically read MY journal and summarize it into your own journal.  Then write about something new that you or the scientists learned and any questions that you have after reading the posts.
Hope that helps!
