There are a lot of flowers on the islands that we have visited so far. Many of the hillsides are just covered with orange lilies, white Queen Anne's lace, smaller orchids such as Lady's Slipper and a white one with lots of blooms, irises - both purple and blue, a yellow ranunculus-like flower, wild geraniums, and even some dandelions. Of course, this and the thick grasses and bamboo that grows everywhere can make walking cross country very difficult at times. As we move north, the flowers and vegetation is changing gradually. Today we saw fewer lilies and irises and more orchids and yellow ranunculus. I have posted a picture of one of the hillsides on Iturup covered with flowers for you to see.
