dear patty, what is the difference of time zones from new york to alaska? Hi David, Mike, and Evan, It is 4 hours later here in Alaska than it is in New York. What is interesting, though, is that usually every 15 degrees of longitude on the globe, equals one hour's difference. The state of Alaska covers 5 of these zones, but they all follow one time zone: Alaska time! That can make it hard for kids going to school in western Alaska. Imagine: If school starts at 8 AM, it is actually much earlier for them (at least according to the sun in the sky). I hope I haven't confused you! If I have, take a look a globe and see if you can figure out what I am trying to describe. -Patty |
