Hi Amy!
Thanks so much for the pictures. It is certainly a subsistence way of life!
Nature in the raw! What sort of fish are they smoking in the smoke house?

Yes, I agree with you it certainly is a subsistence way of life and in many ways it makes being dependent on a grocery store seem pretty pathetic and the ability to live off the land very appealing.

In Canada they were smoking a fish called Coney, sometimes known as a Shefish (I’m not sure if the spelling of that is correct). In Alaska, in the village we are staying in they have just finished drying and smoking the King Salmon, which is the same fish that we fished for outside of Anchorage.
