Did you see any foxes there?
i would like to go there and see all the wild alaskan animals
also to go kayaking
did all the BASC students get to do this also?
Hi Jackie,
I didn't see any foxes. I did see lots of tracks and we found that fox cache, where a fox had hidden an egg.
Some of the banding crew did see a fox one day though. I was in the second helicopter load of people to the Piasuk site. When we got there, the other people said that a fox was flushed out by the helicopter! It was probably waiting for the geese to come by!
I hope you get to go out camping some time! It is great being out on the tundra. And, kayaking is fun, too!
This was a different project than the ones that the students working for BASC were on. Some of them were working at the point on an archaeological dig project. And, then some (like your brother, Jeremy!) worked as assistants to some of the scientists that come to Barrow in the summer. Jeremy got to work on the Tundra Manipulation Project where they are measuring gas fluxes on the tundra.
Maybe you can get a job working on a project next summer!
Ms Pierce
