Today we head for home. I've gotten up early to help break camp and pack. So has everyone else.

and the first group climbs in. There will be four or five flights today in order to bring everyone home. Around 12 noon local time the first chopper lifts off and heads back to Thule. As we fly towards the Air Base the high Arctic polar desert is visible beneath us.

Soon the familar sights of Thule Air Base and the harbor appear beneath us.

As soon as we land, everyone helps unload the chopper, loads up the vehicles, and gets to work. Some of us have presentations to make, some of us are going back into the field to check study sites, some of us are going to be working on gear transport, and others are going back to the North Star Inn to begin a well-deserved rest period.
