August 2, 2006 - Boating Down the Colville River, Hurry up and wait Options

The entire research team gathered near the boats to begin the fifty mile journey north to Camp One. Unfortunately, the departure time was seriously delayed by problems with the motors. It appears some of the motors were damaged during the flight to Umiat because one of the oil filters was crushed so badly that it was an inch shorter than a normal filter. Fortunately, Dave is a mechanical wizard with boat motors and he trouble shot all the problems.

After negotiated braided channels for several hours, we finally located a large gravel bar that would make a suitable camp. As we set up camp, a curious juvenile caribou circled us. The wildlife has been amazing – we have seen a moose, caribou, musk ox, wolf tracks, marmots, and a wide variety of birds. Tomorrow we head to the dinosaur quarry.
