Description: Transmitters like this one are used by wildlife biologists to track and learn more about the location and diving behavior of marine mammals. This transmitter is smaller and lighter than the camera that I used to take the photo. It has an antenna that extends a few centimeters beyond the edge of the picture.

Description: 5/23/06 – Not only was it awesome to capture photos of the Healy from the air, it was equally awesome to capture photos of her from the water in the landing craft. I feel very lucky to have been able to see the Healy from this vantage point.

Description: 5/23/06 – The landing craft is actually lowered down from the deck to the water by a crane located on the fantail of the ship. I had to climb down the ladder you see in this picture in order to board the landing craft. I held on for dear life and took it one step at a time. What an adventure just to board the boat!

Description: 5/14/06 - It was so nice of Gay to let me try on her parka. The fur around the hood is from wolf, while the rest of the fur on the bottom trim, sleeves, and inside is from wolf, wolverine, and lamb. The hand made parka was very lightweight, comfortable, and very warm.

Description: 5/14/06 - When I first met Gay Sheffield in Gambell, she was wearing this beautiful handmade parka. Later, on the ship, I was admiring it and she offered to let me try it on. It slid so smoothly over my head and the fur inside felt so soft. I got very warm after just a few minutes.

Description: 5/22/06 - Mrs. Barlow or Miss Healy? Tim Sullivan, the navigator, took one of the life rings down and said that it was a great photo op, so I put it on and Patty snapped a photo for me. Silly me - Miss Healy would never leave his stateroom without mascara or lipstick.
