TREC Virtual Base Camp _ Ask the Teacher (Bob) or the Scientist Team _ Ablation

Posted by: Josh Silverstein Sep 21 2005, 04:41 PM

How severe was the ablation that you measured? Was there a significant change between when you got there and when you left? What would you say is the average rate of ablation over the course of a year?

Josh,
I was surprised to find that the glacier was melting in my opinion very quickly in the summer. Like 3-4 cm a day. But it probably only melts in the summer when there is sunlight all the time. In the winter, it doesn't melt at all and some of the ice melts is replaced by new ice..

We shot the gun when training the first couple of days, but never had to use it to shoot at bears.
