Today, we examined samples of the organic material collected from the trench. Our task was to separate the living biomass (plants, green leaves, roots, etc.) from the other organic material in the sample.

In these photos members of our team are separatig the biomass, washing the roots to remove residal soil particles, and sorting the organic material by type of plant and type of structure (roots/green leaves, dead leaves, etc). The final picture shows several of the completed samples.
