Hi Patty! Greetings from the top of the ice sheet in Summit, Greenland.

Mike, Gayle, and I saw a "halo" a few days ago. It looks like a rainbow circling the entire sun. It was beautiful and was caused by the sunlight bending as it traveled through the ice crystals in the atmosphere. Mike, Gayle, and I were wondering if you have seen any interesting things happening with the sun, such as halos or sun dogs. Let us know when you have a free moment.

We are enjoying following your expedition!

Hi Kevin,

When I was out on the small "rigid hull inflatable boat," about a week and a half ago, we saw a halo around the sun. Also, a few days ago we saw what people here call a "fog bow" -- a rainbow-like effect that arched over the bow of the ship. I finally know what lies at the end of a rainbow: The Healy!!

Here are two photos that I took.

I hope you are enjoying your Greenland trip!

Best,
Patty
