Lindsay,

I have gotten to see some sled dogs. I've also gotten to learn quite a bit about them. The guy that drove me up to Toolik from Fairbanks also knew quite a bit about them. His summer job is driving the Dalton highway 2x a week while his winter job is taking people out on sled dog trips. He has 8 dogs of his own and his neighbor has 35 so together they have plenty of dogs to do the job. He said that he only bought two expensive dogs that knew what they were doing. The others he got for free. The thing about the sled dogs is that if you put smart lead ones up front they can train the newer and younger ones.

What I have found is that people who do the sled dog thing really love their dogs. It is one of the many great things about Alaska.
