Hi Marcus,

Well, we used big nets that looked like fishing nets tied to long metal fencing posts to make the pot. We used plastic tent stakes to hold the nets down on the ground so the geese couldn't get out underneath the nets. Then, we used a helicopter (that's some pretty big equipment!) to drive the geese towards the pot. We also used people-power! We walked behind and to the sides of the flock of geese once the helicopter had herded them close enough to the pot. We wore hip waders or rubber boots to walk on the tundra.

For the banding we needed special pliers that crimped the bands together around the geese's legs and calipers to measure the lengths of the tarsus (leg bone) and culmen (length of beak on top). We also used a spring scale to measure the weights of the birds. We also wore rainpants and jackets to keep from getting bird feces and urine on us while handling the birds!

That's about it.
