Hi Olaf,

We were out banding for 5 days. The pilot could only fly 8 hours per day. But, flying for eight hours in a day goes through the fuel. The fuel barrels were at a different location than our campsite, so the helicopter had to sling barrels from that place to our campsite as he needed them.

We used more fuel than the biologists had estimated that we would use, so they had to fly back to Barrow to get more! I'm not sure why we used more. Maybe the pilot had to fly around looking for geese more than they thought that he would have to do.

Fuel is expensive and heavy!
