Just before the "Peoples of the Arctic" presentation began, I was introduced to a Marshfield High School graduate currently stationed at Thule. Amazing, I teach in a town of about 5,000 people at the high from which he graduated. We've never met, don't even know each other. Where do we meet? At an Air Base approximately 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle, thousands of miles from home. You never know who you will meet or where.

Post note:

Another interesting sidebit: Twelve undergraduate and graduate students are part of our research team this summer. Three, repeat three, of them had the same birthday (different years), and that birthday took place while we were in the Arctic.
