Wrapping up the field season Options

Yesterday, August 15, we worked hard getting all our gear down from our field sites and packed in boxes to return to Longyearbyen. The gear has to be labeled, cleaned and boxed up. Some goes back to the states while other stuff stays in storage in Longyearbyen. Some last minute data loggers were put in the river. The students working on projects here are all working on presentations that will be given on Wed at UNIS (University at Svalbard). They are pulling together all of there preliminary data

We will be returning to Longyearbyen today by boat. Hopefully we have some time to stop off at Barentsburg, which is a Russian settlement nearby. The trip takes about 3 hours if the seas aren't too rough.

Brook's took this one the other day outside the field station. It is my new favorite.

Moving things back to the field station involves nontraditional ways of packing gear!!!
