Hello Patty,
Do you happen to know, and can you give us a sense of, who controls and who has rights over the area of the Bering Sea in which the Healy is conducting its research? Are you primarily in waters controlled by the United States or are these international waters? Assuming they are international waters, do you happen to know if there are research vessels from other countries that are conducting climate change research in the same general geographic location?
Thanks,
David
Hi Dave,
I don't know who has rights over the area of the Bering Sea where we are. I'll ask some members of the Coast Guard on the bridge to find out. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer.
I'll also have to ask the scientists about other research vessels. I believe that Russia may have vessels that conduct similar research, but I will verify that and get back to you.
-Patty
