I was curious to quantify what you meant when you referred to your dip in the Arctic Ocean by saying it "wasn't too cold." I did a bit of research and found that the temperature in Deadhorse was in the mid-50's °F, which isn't so bad for a quick dip. But, I also found that the current water temperature in Prudhoe Bay was only 33.1°F at 2pm Monday. I certainly hope it wasn't that cold! The station that recovered the water temperature looks like it might be farther north than where you were. It probably tests at deeper water levels too. (Temperatures from: www.weather.com and http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/alaska.html Click on the temperature then on Station information to find location.)

Which oceans have you not dipped in yet?

I'll miss reading your postings. I check in with you almost every day over lunch. The photos from your most recent hike are amazing and make Ohio seem even more flat. I'm looking forward to reading the conclusion!

Laura,

I would say that your temperature readings are pretty accurate. I know that I swam/waded out near some ice and I know it takes a pretty cold temperature to freeze salt water. Also I would say that around 50 F was accurate for the area. There was a good wind that made it feel much cooler when you got out of the ocean wearing only shorts.

I have only been in the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Arctic. I have quite a few more to cross off before I have them all.

I'm enjoying all of the mountains--sorry it makes Ohio seem flat. Maybe you should drive down to the mountainous south eastern part of Ohio this weekend.

Thanks for writing in Love,
tom
