Dear Mrs. Kaden,

thank you for your last letter.
Here is my next question. What's the weather like? How are the temperatures.

Love, Heidi (form8)

The weather in the Arctic is changing fast. Yesterday, the sun came out midnight and we watched it, standing on the bridge of the ship, disappear in a thick bank of fog after only 45 minutes. At this time of the year foggy conditions are common. We are in a marine environment and the air is saturated with water vapor. The air temperature is between -1 to +1 C and the water is about -1C at the moment. This gives us the frequent layer of fog and also low stratus clouds.

We dress warm and have different layers of clothing on. The coast guard also provides Mustang suits and special super thick polar clothing for assignments on the fantail of the ship or on the ice. Inside the ship it is warm and cozy and the ship is always close.

Best regards,

Ute
