Hi Andrew,
It feels very strange when the Healy goes through the ice! When we are open waters, it sways with the waves. But when we go through ice, the whole ship shakes and shudders. The walls rattle and it is hard to sleep. The chairs here even have hooks on the bottom so that you can hook them to a screw on the floor -- that keeps them in place if no one is sitting on them. If the ice is thick, the ship breaks through whatever it can, and then it backs up and moves forward again. It does this again and again until it finally rams its way through the ice! -Patty |
