There ARE a lot of volcanoes on the Kuril Islands. I have read that there are over 45 volcanoes on the 20 or so islands. I don't know if all of those are considered to be active, though. According to the Sakhalin Times online, there are 36 active volcanoes on the Kurils, but only 8 of them are considered to be "dangerous" (I'm not exactly sure what THAT means . . . mellow.gif ) Mount Ebeko, on one of the Northern Kuril Islands, Paramushir, has been venting gas and steam for the past several months. So I think that if we see any eruptions, it will just be steam, gas and ash, not much lava. I will be watching out for eruptions and will definitely get pictures and upload them to the website. So keep watching!
