Wow - I'm so sorry that I just discovered your question! Here's my very late reply.

The Laurier is actually much smaller than the first ship I was on, the USCGC Healy. I was always getting lost on the Healy! In regards to the weather, I have been out now on three trips, and each time the weather on departure has ben beautiful; it's been sunny and clear. And, each time, the bad weather (cold, fog, drizzle, and even snow) has settled in soon after. But, by that time, we're so busy, we hardly notice except to be sure to bundle up before going out on deck.
