Dear Colleague,

Copies of Toward An Arctic System Synthesis: Results and Recommendations, the report from the first Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Program all-investigator workshop, which was convened in May 1996 in Snowbird, Utah, are available upon request.

Researchers active in the first seven years of ARCSS research, investigators from other major national and international arctic research programs, and representatives of federal agencies conducting arctic research met to assess the state of the ARCSS scientific enterprise, present results, and work together to identify research priorities. The workshop report contains priorities identified in the following three areas related to the workshop theme, Variability of the Arctic System: Manifestations and Mechanisms:

  • Temporal and Spatial Change;
  • Environment, Resources, and People; and
  • Global Change and the Arctic System.

This report also includes abstracts from the scientific presentations. The workshop strongly emphasized the involvement of graduate students and young investigators and many of the poster abstracts are the products of their work.

Copies of the report can be ordered from ARCUS (arcus@arcus.org), or it can be downloaded as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file (link below).
