MAY 27, 2006 - STEAM TIME!!!

TODAY, I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET A TOUR FROM THE CAPTAIN (DAN OLIVER) HIMSELF! WE STARTED AT THE ENGINE EXHAUST STACKS, ON THE 4TH FLOOR (WHERE I LIVE) AND HEADED WAAAAY DOWN! AT THE END, WE ENDED UP IN THE ENGINE ROOM & HEADED TO THE LAB TO SHOW MY MOM HOW DIRTY WE WERE!!! IíLL GIVE YOU A PERSONAL TOUR!

FIRST WE GO AND MEET CAPTAIN AND HEAD UP TO THE ENGINE EXAUSAT STACKS. SUDDENLY, YOU REMEMBER THAT YOU FORGOT YOUR CAMERA IN YOUR ROOM! YOU LEAVE CAPTAIN IN THE DUST (AND THE COLD) AND RUN BACK TOYOUR ROOM! AFTER YOU GET YOUR CAMERA, YOU RUN BACK UP TO THE CAPTAIN. THATíS WHEN YOU NOTICE THAT THE DOOR IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE DOORS YOUíRE USED TO ON THE SHIP! YOU ASK TH CAPTAIN WHY, & HE TELLS YOU THAT THE DOOR IS LIKE THIS BECAUSE NOT MANY PEOPLE GO IN THEM!!! I HAVNíT NOTICED OTHER DOORS LIKE THIS IN THE KITCHEN STORAGE ROOM.

HERE IS THE DOOR THAT WE WENT INTO! IT TOOK AWHILE 2 GET IN!!! ALSO, YOU CAN SEE CAPTINíS HAND, WAVING AT YOU!!!

AFTER WE FINALLY GOT THROUGH THE DOOR, I SAW THAT THERE WERE LOTS & LOTS OF THINGS IN THERE!! THERE WERE ALSO LOTS OF STAIRS THAT WE WOULD, EVENTUALLY, DECEND. (CLIMB DOWN!)

IPB Image
THERE I AM CLIMBING DOWN ONE OF THE MANY LADDERS!!!

AFTER A SOME MORE STAIRS, WE GOT TO A FLOOR WHERE THE CAPTAIN STOPPED TO SHOW ME SOMETHING INTERESTING! IT WAS A LITTLE LATCH THAT LEAD TO AN AIR-FILTERING ROOM. THE LATCH WAS IF THE AIR-FILTER BLEW UP, YOU COULD ESCAPE! (LUCKILY, IT DIDNíT BLOW UP WHILE I WAS IN THERE!) THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER PLACE THAT YOU COULD ESCAPE FROM! THIS ONE WAS AN ACTUAL DOOR! WE WENT IN AND QUOTING PATTY, ďPICTURES TELL ALL!Ē

IPB Image
THIS IS ME, ENTERING THROUGH THE LATCH! HERES CAPTAIN OPENING THE SECOND ESCAPE ROUTE. THE DOOR ALMOST KNOCKED HIM OVER!!!

IPB Image
THERE ARE LOTS OF MACHINES!!!

OF COURSE, ALL OF THESE MACHINES ARE:
IPB Image

ONE MACHINE WE SAW WAS THE AUXILLARY DEISEL GENERATOR. ONE TIME IT BLEW UP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE IT!!!

IPB Image
WHEN IT BLEW UP, IT HIT SOME THINGS & MADE DENTS. IF YOU DONíT BELIVE ME, LOOK AT THESE PICTURES!!!!!

WHILE I WAS GETTING A TOUR, CAPTAIN GOT PAGED! LUCKILY, HE DIDNíT HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE, BECAUSE THERE WAS A PHONE IN THE ROOM!

IPB Image
HERE IS A PAGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (JUST IN CASE YOU WANTED TO SEE ONE!)

HERE IS CAPTAIN MAKING HIS PHONE CALL!!! (HE DIDNíT KNOW THAT I WAS TAKING A PICTURE!)

HERE I AM IN THE ďPHONE BOOTHĒ!!

IPB Image

AND HERE IS THE ďPHONE BOOTHĒ ALL ALONE!

AFTER WE EXPLORED THAT ROOM ( AND CAPTAIN ANSWERED HIS PAGER) WE WENT BACK THROUGH THE TINY ESCAPE ROUTE.

IPB Image
HERE I AM, TRYING TO GO BACK THROUGH THE HOLE!

CAPTAIN WAS A LITTLE MORE GRACEFUL! NOT!!!

IPB Image
HERE THE CAPTAIN DRIVES THE SHIP! (NOT REALLY! HEíS ACTUALLY CLOSES UP THE ESCAPE ROUTE!)

IPB Image
HERE THE CAPTAIN TRIES, UNSUCCESFULLY, TO CLEAN!

IíM NOT KIDDING! THERE ARE ACTUALLY BROOMS DOWN THERE!

LIKE ANYONE COULD CLEAN THIS!!! THATíS ALL DIRT! AND THATíS A CLEAN SPOT!!!

AFTER WE DID THAT, WE WENT TO THE ENGINE ROOM! WE DIDNíT SPEND MUCH TIME IN THERE, SO I DIDNíT GET ANY PICTURES! IíM TRYING TO GET JEFF JACKSON TO GIVE ME A TOUR, SO HOPFULLY, IíLL HAVE A TOUR BEFORE I GET OFF IN DUTCH HARBOR! TO FINISH OFF THIS JOURNAL, IíLL SHOW YOU SOME PICTURES OF US, AFTER THE TOUR!!!

NOTICE THE PINK CAMERA BAG THAT CAPTAIN IS HOLDING! AND NO, THAT IS NOT BLOOD TRAILING FROM LIP, IT IS A TWIZZLER!

AND THE FINAL PICTURE!!!AFTER THIS, I WENT TO A TALK ABOUT EIDERS BY JIM LOVVORN!!!
